Foreword

In the 1980s, my family moved to rural Oklahoma. My father became CEO of a Cherokee Indian-owned electronics
manufacturing company. Every day, he walked the company’s factory floor talking to each employee. It didn’t matter if you were the foreman or the newest hire, he took each conversation seriously. He listened to concerns and acted when necessary. His daily walks leveled the playing field. It was how he ran his company.

Out of these conversations, the soul of the company was born. Real values were established, and everyone was held
accountable. In a few years, the company grew from just a few employees to more than three hundred. It became one of the most successfully run small businesses in the U.S. in the 1980s.

My father was one of the first CEOs in the nation to institute on-site day care and offer full-ride scholarship grants to employees and their children. It was even honorably recognized several times by the Reagan administration.

Today, we live in unprecedented times, not reminiscent of the past. The ego-driven greed of the Bernie Madoff era spiraled our global economy towards the brink of disaster. As a result, many people may be wondering: Do corporate safeguards exist that could’ve prevented the global meltdown? How does a company avoid becoming the next Enron or Countrywide? What values guide your company’s destiny? How do you change your corporate soul?

The Invisible Wall delivers an effective management strategy that empowers an entire organization. But beware: this type of change takes courage. It’s change that starts with individuals.

With The Invisible Wall, we gain a deeper understanding of humanity. It teaches us to treat people with dignity, respect, and openness. When everyone in an organization, from CEO to trainee, is held accountable, companies are primed to flourish. Real success is achieved when ego-driven realities are replaced by humility, innovation, integrity, empowerment, and fun! Real success is achieved when you break down the Invisible Wall.
